What is 21-Toxin Free & Why choose 21-Toxin Free ?

Our motto here at Miss Nails is to make our nail enamels using the safest ingredients available. While it is nearly impossible to make completely Natural or Organic nail color, we have done our best to stay away from the 15 most toxic ingredients and therefore ensure a much safer, natural formula. We have been able to achieve this without using any of the 15 toxic ingredients (listed below) which are commonly used in many synthetic products floating in the market.
Always make sure to choose a toxic free nail polish which is, for the very least, labeled >3 Free< because at the end of the day, nothing is more important than your health! All Miss Nails polishes are formulated in France & Proudly Made In INDIA!
Now you can paint your nails without worrying about the 15 most toxic ingredients with Miss Nails:
1. Acetone
Acetone is toxic in nature. However, a small amount of acetone might give you an upset stomach, may cause headache, dizziness, nausea or vomiting. It can even cause loss of consciousness, and may even be fatal. Hence, we don't use Acetone in making our polishes for you.
2. Phthalates (incl. Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Diethylhexyl Phthalate (DEHP))
Phthalates can be found in a variety of our cosmetics including nail polish in which they are used as plasticizers or solvents to give nail polish their shiny and plastic-like consistency. Plasticizers have been proven to be carcinogenic and have also been associated with damage to the liver, kidneys and even the reproductive system. This is why we make sure that all Miss Nails polishes are free from Phthalates.
3. Toluene (also Methylbenzene)
Toluene is found naturally in crude oil and in the tolu tree. It is used in a variety of cosmetics including hair dye and nail polish in which it functions as a solvent to suspend the colour in order to form a smooth finish. Toluene has not been classified as a carcinogenic but has been proven to be a powerful neurotoxin when inhaled. Hence, we do not use Toluene in making our polishes for you.
4. Xylene
Xylene is a commonly used solvent in nail polish used to thin the nail polish – or to ensure your nail polish doesn’t get ›lumpy‹. Xylene also often gives nail polish its distinguished odor. Xylene has been proven to be a common allergen whose vapors can cause eye & skin irritation, headaches, dizziness and nausea. Therefore, all Miss Nails products are Xylene free.
5. Camphor
Camphor is found from the wood of the camphor tree but it can also be synthetically produced. This synthetic form is the one most commonly found in nail polishes and it is used as a plasticizer to add more shine and elasticity. Excess exposure to camphor can cause nausea, dizziness and headaches when inhaled. It is said that in small doses camphor does not pose any health risks, but why take the risk and rather not use any! Hence, we don't use Camphor in making our polishes for you.
6. Formaldehyde
Formaldehyde is used as a preservative in nail polish. It is also an ingredient that commonly gives nail polish its strong odor. It is a proven carcinogen and can additionally cause respiratory symptoms, nausea and allergic reactions. Therefore, all Miss Nails polishes are free from Formaldehyde.
7. Formaldehyde Resin
Formaldehyde resin adds depth, gloss and hardness to the film of the nail polish. It is also an ingredient which helps the nail polish better adhere to your nails. It is not classified as a carcinogen like formaldehyde but is a known skin allergen and has been proven to cause dermatitis. This is why we don't use Formaldehyde Resin in making our polishes for you.
8. Ethyl Tosylamide
Ethyl Tosylamide is most commonly used as a plasticizer in nail polish. It can increase the durability and longevity of the nail polish. In Europe, it has been banned from many (but not all) personal care products because of its antibiotic properties and antibiotic resistance. We have followed this great example by banning the use of Ethyl Tosylamide in all Miss Nails polishes.
9. Triphenyl Phosphate (TPHP)
Triphenyl Phosphate is also used as a plasticizer to improve the flexibility and durability of the nail polish. The exposure to TPHP has been associated with endocrine impacts and reproductive and developmental toxicity. Therefore, we do not use any Triphenyl Phosphate in any of our Miss Nails polishes.
10. Colophonium
This is a sticky substance that comes from pine and spruce trees. Its sticky qualities make it a potentially useful ingredient in many cosmetics however it is considered a strong allergen and has been associated with acute allergic contact dermatitis as well as difficulty in breathing. All Miss Nails polishes are free from Colophonium.
11. Organic Halides (AOX)
Organic halides are used as solvents. They are a chemical compound made of bromine, iodine, fluorine and chlorine. They have been associated with nerve damage and some are considered carcinogens. Hence, we don't use Organic Halides in making our polishes for you.
12. Parabens
Parabens are a group of ingredients which act as preservatives. They keep bacteria, mold and fungi from growing in your cosmetic products. Parabens have been associated with the increased risk of breast cancer and skin cancer. No form of Parabens is used in making our polishes for you.
13. Silicone
The most commonly used silicone in nail polish is dimethicone. It is used to speed up the drying process. It is known as an allergen but also a non-biodegradable chemical which is bad for the environment. This is why we do not use Silicone in making our polishes for you.
14. Fragrances
If your cosmetics or nail polish lists fragrance as an ingredient it is good to watch out for this because it is most commonly unknown which ingredients exactly make up this fragrance. Most fragrances have been linked to serious health problems such as cancer, reproductive and developmental toxicity, allergies, and other sensitivities. Nail polish sometimes uses fragrances to hide the odor or to simply give a pleasant smell to the nail polish. All our Miss Nails polishes are free from toxic fragrances.
15. Animal Derived Ingredients
Animal ingredients in nail polish most commonly include guanine and carmine. They have not been proven to cause health problems but we, as a vegan company, have chosen to stay away from them because we do not want to include any ingredients in our products where an animal had to be harmed or killed. Therefore, we are completely against these types of ingredients and do not use any form of Animal Derived Ingredients in making our polishes for you.
16. Benzene (*)
Benzene is a naturally occurring chemical found in crude oil and gasoline. It is widely recognized as a known carcinogen and has been linked to serious blood disorders, including leukemia. Even small levels of long-term exposure can pose significant health risks.
Because your safety is our priority, all Miss Nails polishes are completely free from Benzene.
17. Formaldehyde Releasers
Formaldehyde releasers are chemicals that slowly release formaldehyde over time to act as preservatives. Although they may not be formaldehyde itself, they can produce similar harmful effects, including skin irritation, allergic reactions, and potential long-term health risks.
We ensure that none of our Miss Nails polishes contain Formaldehyde Releasers.
18. Cyclic Silicones
Cyclic Silicones are often used in cosmetics to create a smooth texture and quick-drying finish. However, certain cyclic silicones are non-biodegradable and may accumulate in the environment. Some have also raised concerns regarding potential hormone disruption.
For both your health and environmental responsibility, Miss Nails polishes are free from Cyclic Silicones.
19. Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK)
Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) is a strong solvent sometimes used in nail products to thin formulas and improve application. Exposure to MEK vapors may cause headaches, dizziness, irritation of the eyes and respiratory tract, and nervous system effects with prolonged exposure.
We do not use Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) in any of our polishes.
20. Glycol Ethers (Series E)
Glycol Ethers of Series E are solvents used in various industrial and cosmetic applications. Some glycol ethers have been associated with reproductive toxicity and developmental concerns in high or repeated exposure.
To ensure maximum safety, Miss Nails products are completely free from Glycol Ethers (Series E).
21. Hydroquinone (HQ)
Hydroquinone is sometimes used in cosmetic products for skin-lightening purposes and as a stabilizer in certain formulations. Prolonged exposure may cause skin irritation and has raised concerns regarding potential toxicity.
We do not include Hydroquinone (HQ) in any Miss Nails formulations.
