When choosing a nail polish, most people focus on the color. But the finish of the polish can completely change how your manicure looks. Nail polish finishes refer to the texture and shine of the polish once it dries.

Here are some of the most popular nail polish finishes and what makes each one unique.

Glossy Finish

Starting with the classics - Glossy is the most classic and widely used nail polish finish. It dries with a smooth, shiny surface that reflects light beautifully. Glossy nails give a clean, salon-like appearance.

We have more than 50+ Glossy nail polishes at Miss Nails! Check them out here !!

While this is the common type of finish, and almost all creme nail polishes are glossy themselves, a glossy top coat is always recommended to even more long lasting gloss!

Matte Finish

Another classic! Matte nail polish dries without shine i.e. it does not create a reflective surface for light to bounce off of, giving nails a soft, velvety appearance. This finish creates a modern and sophisticated look that feels understated yet stylish.

We can proudly say that we have the BEST matte nail polishes - that glide on smoothly, are perfectly opaque in 2 coats, dry down super quick in a streakless flawless finish!

Metallic Finish

Metallic - as in it looks like metal! Metallic nail polishes have a reflective, almost mirror-like quality. They often come in shades like gold, silver, bronze, or chrome-inspired colors and create a bold statement manicure.

We had a huge variety of Chromes - that was loved by everyone!

Glitter Finish

Oh this is one of our favourite kinds! Glitter nail polish contains larger sparkly particles that catch the light. They often come in small, medium and large sizes, and are usually in round or hex shapes. This finish adds drama and texture to a manicure and is perfect for parties or festive occasions.

We love a good sparkly glitters  – especially these Holo ones!

Shimmer Finish

Shimmer polishes contain very fine reflective particles that create a subtle glow on the nails. Unlike glitter, the particles are smaller, giving the polish a smooth yet luminous look.

You can say that we are pros at shimmers!

Jelly Finish

Okay jellies dominated 2025, and are gonna rock 2026 too! Jelly polishes are translucent, sheer, and give nails a glossy, glass-like appearance. They often create a soft, juicy effect and are great for layering or building unique nail looks.

We have had a jelly long before they went VIRAL !

Pearl Finish

Pearl finishes have a soft sheen that resembles the glow of pearls. They add elegance to lighter shades and create a delicate, luminous effect.

Even though the pearl formula is sort of dying down in general, only one shade can redeem (and has redeemed) this finish! That is WHITE. The Pantone color of the year being Cloud Dancer - it is gonna be big in 2026!

Textured Finish

Textured finishes are like Blue Cheese - some people love it, and some people look away!

There are different types of textures that can be found in nail polishes -

  • Sand texture : These look and feel like sand paper of different shades.

  • Sugar texture : A mix of different sizes of glitters that settle in a gritty finish

  • Salt texture : This is like a rug? Like sand paper but make it soft!

Not everyone’s cup of tea, but definitely unique and fun!
