There is nothing more frustrating than spending hours on a perfect manicure only to have it chipped in 2 days. Sometimes even the most expensive nail polishes also chip in a day or two and we're left confused and honestly disappointed! Like, why spend so much money for chipped nails? Na-uh!
Well, the good news is, with the right technique and a few simple hacks, you can make your nail polish last much MUCH longer.
Let me break it down to you!!
1. Step 1 (And this is non-negotiable) : Start with CLEAN and DRY nails
Now clean here, means NO NAIL POLISH RESIDUE, and dry means NO EXCESS OIL on your nails. Any kind of residue/oil on your nails will prevent the base coat from sticking to your nails - which will ultimately cause lifting and chipping. Wipe your nails with a nail polish remover or alcohol to create a clean surface.
2. Step 2 : Apply a Base Coat

A base coat is essential if you want your manicure to last. It helps the nail polish adhere better to the nail. It can also prevent staining from darker shades. Skipping this step can make polish chip much faster.
Try our So Grippy Base Coat which is specifically formulated to grip into your nails, as well as the polish you apply so the manicure lasts long, chip free upto 10 days. It is also quick dry so you don’t have to wait to apply your favourite colors!
3. Step 3 : Apply Thin Layers
This might sound weird, but 3 thin layers > 2 thick layers.
Apply nail polishes in thin even layers. Let each layer dry before you apply the next one. This makes sure that the polishes don’t remain wet which can cause smudging and ultimately lead to lifting up.
4. Seal the Edges
When applying polish, gently run the brush across the tip of your nail. This technique, called “capping the edge,” helps seal the polish and prevents early chipping. Because the tip of our nails suffer the most abrasion, they tend to chip and expose the edge of the nail polish which then starts lifting.
5. Finish With a Top Coat
A GOOD top coat adds shine and protects your manicure from daily wear and tear. It acts like a protective shield, helping your nail color last longer and look salon-fresh.
Don’t forget to seal the edges with the top coat too!
Our top coats are proven to increase longevity till upto 10 days*

6. Avoid Water Right After Painting
Water can soften nail polish if it hasn’t fully dried yet. Try to avoid washing dishes or taking a long shower immediately after doing your nails. Nail polishes tend to take some time to actually grip onto your nails, its like the caution period!
7. Additional tip
Apply a top coat every 2-3 days just to keep them fresh, and seal any cracks that may have happened!
Final Thoughts
A long-lasting manicure isn’t just about the nail polish itself – it’s about how you apply and protect it. With proper preparation, thin layers, and a good top coat, your nails can stay glossy and chip-free for much longer.
